What a small business website costs in year one Design and build, plus twelve months of hosting, support and changes.
Agency £6,800–£32,200
Freelancer £1,740–£6,960
DIY builder £192–£540
Us, pay monthly £540–£1,440

Bars show the range from the low to the high end of each route. Indicative UK ranges for a small business site — not a survey.

The problem

Good websites are not expensive. Buying one badly is.

Most small businesses get quoted like a corporate marketing department, then end up paying twice: once for the build, and again every time anything needs changing.

Quotes with no ceiling

Two agencies quote the same brief at £4,000 and £18,000, and nothing in either document tells you why. Without a reference point you cannot tell value from padding.

The bill after the bill

Hosting, SSL, plugin licences, a stock photo library, and £95 an hour every time a price changes. The build fee is often the smaller half of what you actually spend.

Then it just sits there

Because every small edit costs money, nothing gets edited. Two years on the prices are wrong, the staff have changed, and the site quietly stopped bringing work in.

The numbers

What the four routes actually cost

Every business asking us for a quote is really choosing between four options. Here is the honest version of all of them, including the two that are not us.

Indicative UK costs for a small business website of roughly 5–15 pages.

What you get

Everything in one monthly fee

No separate hosting bill, no hourly rate for small changes, no surprise renewal in twelve months’ time.

A design made for you

Not a template with your logo dropped in. We design around what your business actually sells and who actually buys it.

Genuinely fast

Hand-built, lightweight pages. No bloated page-builder plugins dragging your Core Web Vitals — and your Google ranking — down.

Hosting, SSL & backups

Fast UK hosting, a free SSL certificate, daily backups and security monitoring. It is all handled — you never think about it.

Set up to be found

Proper page structure, schema markup, a sitemap, Search Console and a Google Business Profile configured the way Google expects.

Changes included

New prices, new photos, a new service, a Christmas closure notice. Email us and it is done — no quote, no invoice, no waiting a fortnight.

A person who answers

You get a name and a direct number, not a ticket queue. The person you brief is the person who builds it.

How it works

From first call to live site in about three weeks

You will spend roughly two hours on this in total. That is the point.

  1. We talk

Twenty minutes on the phone. We work out what the site needs to do, who it is for, and what it should cost. You get a fixed price.

  2. We design

You see a real design of your homepage before anything is built, and we change it until you are happy. Nothing is a surprise later.

  3. We build

We write the pages, build the site, wire up the forms and set up your Google listings. You review it on a private link.

  4. You go live

We point your domain, check everything twice and hand you a short guide. Then we keep looking after it, every month.

Questions

The things people ask first

Is a cheap website a bad website?

Cheap and affordable are different things. A bad website is one built from a bloated template, never updated and invisible on Google — and those get sold at every price point, including £8,000. What actually drives cost is scope, how much of the work is bespoke, and how many people are involved in delivering it. We keep the price down by being small, by not reselling other people’s software, and by building lightweight sites that need very little maintenance.

What is the catch with £0 upfront?

There is no catch, but there is a trade. You commit to a 12-month minimum term, and during that time you are renting the site rather than owning it outright. That is how the build cost gets spread. After the minimum term it runs month to month and you can leave with 30 days’ notice, or buy the site outright at any point for the balance of the build cost.

Do I own my domain name?

Yes, always, and we will not hold it hostage. If you already have a domain it stays in your account and we simply point it at the site. If we register one for you, it is registered in your name and we will transfer it to you on request, free, whether you stay with us or not.

Where are you based, and do you work with businesses outside your area?

We are based in Kidlington, just outside Oxford, and we work with businesses across the UK. The whole process runs on phone, email and video, so where you are makes no practical difference. If you are in Oxfordshire and would rather do it over a coffee, that is easily arranged.

What happens if I want to leave?

After the minimum term you give 30 days’ notice and we help you go. Your domain is yours, your content is yours, and we will export the site and hand over the files. You can also buy the build outright and take it to another host. We would rather you left cleanly than stayed because leaving was made difficult.

Can you fix or take over the site I already have?

Often, yes. If the site is fundamentally sound we can host, secure and maintain it from £15 a month and improve it over time. If it is built on something that will fight us — a heavy page-builder theme with forty plugins, say — we will tell you honestly that a rebuild is the better use of your money.

Find out what your website would cost

Tell us what your business does and what you need the site to do. You will get a straight answer: what it needs, what it costs a month, and how quickly it can be live. No sales call, no obligation.

No pressure, no jargon, no obligation. We usually reply the same working day.
