The other way to buy

Or pay once and own it outright

Some businesses would simply rather own the asset. One-off builds start at £1,495 for a five-page site and typically land between £1,495 and £4,500 depending on scope.

The same five-page site, bought two ways.

The crossover is at roughly four years. Below that, monthly is cheaper; beyond it, buying outright is. We will tell you which side of the line you are on rather than steering you to the one that suits us.

How this sits against the alternatives

What a small business website costs in year one Design and build, plus twelve months of hosting, support and changes.
Agency £6,800–£32,200
Freelancer £1,740–£6,960
DIY builder £192–£540

Bars show the range from the low to the high end of each route. Indicative UK ranges for a small business site — not a survey.

Questions

Pricing questions

What is not included in the monthly price?

Three things. Paid advertising spend, if you want to run Google Ads. Third-party subscriptions you choose to add, such as a booking system with its own licence fee. And work that is genuinely a new project rather than a change — adding an online shop to a brochure site, for example. Everything else, including hosting, SSL, backups, security, support and your monthly change allowance, is in the fee.

What counts as a “change”?

Text edits, price updates, new photos, swapping out a service, adding a page, seasonal notices, updating your opening hours, adding a team member. In practice most months use nowhere near the allowance, and we do not run a stopwatch over a five-minute job. If something is genuinely a bigger piece of work, we tell you before we start, not after.

Do prices include VAT?

No. All prices shown exclude VAT, which is charged at the standard rate. If you are VAT registered you will reclaim it anyway; if you are not, add 20% to the figures on this page to get your real cost.

Can I move up or down a plan?

Yes, at any time and in either direction. Moving up takes effect immediately and is pro-rated. Moving down takes effect at your next billing date, provided the site still fits within the lower plan’s page count.

What if I want to buy the site out mid-term?

You can, at any point. You pay the remaining balance of the original build cost, we transfer the files and the domain, and you are free to host it wherever you like. There is no penalty and no inflated exit fee — the figure is worked out the same way every time.

Why is this cheaper than the agency quote I have?

Mostly because there are fewer people between you and the person building the site, and because we do not resell software with licence fees attached. An agency quote often covers an account manager, a project manager, a designer, a developer and a strategist. We are honest that for a big brand programme, that team is worth paying for. For a small business that needs a fast, findable site that brings in enquiries, it is not.
